Who Can Be The Caregiver?
Independent caregivers are adept professionals ready to offer attentive support and foster a safe setting for individuals navigating a range of medical, physical, and mental challenges.
Caregivers encompass both family and non-family members, extending their support to those in need. Caregiver must live with the member. Utilizing available space in their homes, caregivers aim to positively impact the lives of individuals facing challenges. They have the opportunity to earn competitive tax-free stipends for their dedicated efforts.
To become an AFC qualified caregiver:
- Must be 18 years of age or older and free from any physical or mental impairments that may hinder the provision of Adult Foster Care services.
- Capable of obtaining physician’s clearance to fulfill the responsibilities of the caregiver role.
- Be a relative, friend, or community member willing to reside with the member and offer the required care. Please note that a caregiver cannot be the spouse or legal guardian of the member.
- Consent to offer assistance, supervision, and hands-on care as required, in accordance with the member’s personalized care plan. Caregivers are responsible for ensuring the safety and well-being of the AFC member at all times.
- Consent to undergo sex offender and criminal background (CORI) checks.
In addition:
- Offer a secure home environment (owned or rented) that is well-maintained and clean.
- Deliver and arrange daily meals and snacks.
- Ensure each member has a private bedroom equipped with a window and door.
